Quote of the Day

A friend of mine posted this as her status on Facebook:

"He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have."

It made 100% perfect sense.

Sapol ako!

Reason I Love Music

Was watching the Emmy Awards last Monday, and the "In Memoriam" reel was shown while Sarah McLachlan sings I Will Remember You. Never felt great hearing music like that for a long time. The melody is so beautiful and the lyrics, oh my. *sniff...

I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip away from us when things got bad
How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me, I wanna be the one

I will remember you

Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard

But I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to lose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories

Paradise

Went to Coron, Palawan. The best place in the Philippines I've visited so far.

Dive Link Resort - Hotel we stayed in. Very beautiful and the only resort that is on a different island. Ten minute boat ride from the Coron Port and Town Proper. Met the owner, was a great fella. Good food and nice lodging. Great people as well.

Kayangan Beach and Kayangan Lake - The best place in Coron in my opinion. Had to climb a steep mountain to get to the lake. Was out of breath one time but it's worth the treck. Clear and nice temperatured water. Lots of swordfishes and shrimp.

Banol Beach - Beautiful beach beside high mountains. White sand and very clear water. Had lunch near the sea. I LOVE IT!

Twin Lagoon - Most awesome site I've seen. Lagoons enclosed by steep high mountain walls. Makes me want to cry.

We also went to Maquinit Hot Springs, a spring just beside the sea. Dipped for 30 minutes and it was fantastic! Water was really hot (natural, hot spring nga eh!).
There are still a lot of places on the island that we didn't went to, too bad we had limited time. MAGBABALIK!

I plan to go back every year until magsawa ako. Beautiful.

Look Around Round Round

Prudence noun (pru-dence) - the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason; skill and good judgment in the use of resources.

My "Cerebral iPod" still has the LSS virus (Last Song Syndrome). I've tried every anti-virus, spyware, and firewall but to no avail. This is one of those virus that wouldn't just go away. Now the new song that is on infinite REPEAT on my brain is the song Dear Prudence.

There is something about that song that soothes me. I know John and Paul wasn't talking (singing) to me, they're talking to Prudence; who seems to be in a bit of a slump. That is why I think I can relate with Prudence, and the words affects me in a good way.

I kinda like it, my life having a different soundtrack every month. Good thing only profound and class A1 tunes are on my playlists. But had "Basang-Basa sa Ulan" by Aegis for one week back when I was still with my last ex-officemates, thanks a lot Dan! Buti na lang na-delete ko sa iTunes!

Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play.
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day.
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you.
Dear Prudence, won't you come out and play?

Dear Prudence, open up your eyes.
Dear Prudence, see the sunny skies.
The wind is low the birds will sing
That you are part of everything.
Dear Prudence, won't you open up your eyes?

Look around, round.
Look around, round, round.
Look around.

Dear Prudence, let me see you smile.
Dear Prudence, like a little child.
The clouds will be a daisy chain
So let me see you smile again.
Dear Prudence, won't you let me see you smile?

A Severe Case of LSS (Last Song Syndrome)?

George Harisson's song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" has been playing in my head for about a month now. I don't know why but it won't stop. I'm not complaining, it's a fantastic song but I can't seem to find the connection or the reason. It's the acoustic version that's on non-stop "REPEAT" on my cerebral iPod. Side effect ng meds? Hmmmm...

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps
I dont know why nobody told you how to unfold your love
I dont know how someone controlled you
They bought and sold you.

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps
I dont know how you were diverted
You were perverted too
I dont know how you were inverted
No one alerted you.

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
Look at you all . . .
Still my guitar gently weeps.

My Fascination with The Beatles

I read this spam mail some time ago about this really corny and cheesy “Father’s Letter to His Son” or some crap like that where this “father” supposedly sent this message to his son telling him life lessons and things he (the son) should learn in order to live a happy life. It was stupid actually, but I read it anyway. There was a line on that e-mail that caught my attention. One of the father’s advice was: “Pakinggan mo ang mga kanta ng The Beatles, matutulungan kang ma-appreciate ang lahat ng uri ng musika.” (Listen to the music of The Beatles, it’ll help you appreciate all song genres). I’m not sure if I’m being bias, I’m a big Beatles fan, but I think the dad was right (yeah, I’m biased all right).

I became a big Beatles fan when I was young, about 5 or 7 years old. My mom was the one who introduced me to their music. She would sing or hum these Lennon/McCartney songs while washing the dishes, doing the laundry, or doing any household chores. I don’t know these tunes but I learned them and began singing them myself. We didn’t have any records of the Beatles back then, we didn’t even own a working record or cassette player. “Records”, my dear children, were those round discs made of vinyl which is used to record music. While “Cassettes” are those rectangular thingies that used to house these long “magnetic tapes” which also records and plays music. Ang galing ‘no? Parang iPod!

When I was about 9 or 10 years old, Channel 13 (it was called IBC 13 back then - oh shit I’m old!) started playing these music videos of The Beatles during their concerts and television appearances. And I was like “Oh my gash, those are the songs my mom used to sing!” So I would watch out for these videos on our 8 inch-channel dial-black & white TV and it was amazing!

During high school, we were able to afford to buy a cassette player and purchase compact audio cassettes. So we started to have these Beatles music in the house which made my fanaticism stronger. We then upgraded to compact discs when the CD player came along - came more Lennon/McCartney and George Harrison tunes. Then the MP3s music format blasted thru the scene while I was in college. I began downloading Beatles songs on the internet using Napster on our dial up modem. Good times – two weeks to download a 2MB song. It then surprised me one day when I was singing a Beatles song and my mom asked me “who sang that?” Cool, I knew more Beatles songs than my Nanay. I caught a major case of Beatlemania.

I would read and research about the Fab Four every time I could. I remember during college, I would stay at National Bookstore Cubao after school hours and read books about the band from 3:00pm to 7:00pm without realizing what time it is. I think I finished 13 books overall about the band during my visits to the “National Bookstore Cubao Library”. This one security guard got wise with my act and in one occasion, almost literally dragged me outside the store because I opened a plastic sealed hard bound book about John Lennon. I miss the old Cubao, which used to smell like urine and gook and had dirt everywhere, now it’s all “clean and sosy”. Eww!

Yup, The Beatles music has been a big part of my life. Not a single day goes by that I don’t listen to one Lennon/McCartney hit or hum a George Harrison song. Their music inspires me, moves me, and helps me thru trying times. “Yesterday” is my favorite song by the way (no surprise there).

I’d like to go on and on about how great these four men from England are but I have no time. Just Google “Beatles” and see their awesomeness! My co-workers and I went to Liverpool when we were in the UK, I had the best time of my life. I was like “my god, I’m in Liverpool! I’m at Albert Docks!” Spent £110 on The Beatles Story Museum gift shop – didn’t care. Great day!

About the “father message to son” spam mail, I would like to agree with the dad. I believe (or want to believe) that being exposed to The Beatles music at an early age really did made my mind open to all song types and genres. I like almost all kinds of music; classical, OPM, reggae, rock, soul, jazz, R&B, pop, heavy metal, love songs, hip-hop, theater, rap, etc… love and enjoy them all.

I would also like to send a message to those idiotic parents blaming music for how terrible kids are turning out these days. Please, don’t use music to cover up how lousy you are at raising children. My parents let us listen to all kinds of music, my bros, sis and I turned out OK (well, my siblings did, heheh). Tatay ko nga bumili ng Guns and Roses at Live cassettes ko n’un eh.

The Beatles Rule!!!

Laughter is the Best Medicine

While rummaging through some old stuff inside my cabinet (I’m on sabbatical and am doing anything to keep myself preoccupied just to keep me sane), I found this old shoe box containing old photographs from my elementary school days. Then I found my Grade 6 graduation photo for the old yearbook. Why, I look so cute back in 1992-93 (well, at least that’s what my mom says). Just look at the mug on that kid, very angelic. Heheh. Seems just like yesterday when I was being a punk to my professors; doing silly pranks, being “Noisy” where you have to pay 1 peso if you’re listed as one, and having a conduct of ‘C’ throughout the year. Ah, good times.

And then there’s this one, taken by my retarded brothers. You know how brothers are; bullies and always doing stupid things. That’s what’s great about having four boys in the house, made our home in Cogeo Antipolo seems like a nuthouse 24/7.

Looked like I just died and was flushed down the toilet like a dead goldfish. My dad saw this photo, and having no sense of humor, was infuriated – cursing and yelling at my bros. But everyone else thought it was hilarious. So I scanned it and thought it might make someone smile if they saw it. Will upload both photos on Facebook as well. Hahahaha. ADIK TALAGA!

Hope you enjoy it. =)
